This Revelation Timeline Decoded post features a video from Dr. John Barnett of Discover the Book Ministries DTBM, called ‘JESUS EXPLAINS THE 3 EVENTS THAT TRIGGER HIS SECOND COMING–DO YOU KNOW THEM?’
Before I begin my review of Dr. John Barnett’s explanations, let me declare that I do these type of reviews, not just to expose false teachers; but to show what they teach, which you may have also been taught, so that you can see the truth and the deception.
These reviews serve as an open rebuttal of their explanations. It’s not about me, it’s about the truth of prophecy fulfillment which reveals the glory of our beloved Messiah!
Dr. John Barnett of Discover the Book Ministries says that Matthew 24:15 points to one mans actions in the holy place, the antichrist in a rebuilt Jerusalem temple.
The abomination of desolation is not about the end times. Luke tells us in Luke 21:20-21, that it’s when an army surrounds Jerusalem.
This took place in November 66 AD, when Cestius and his army surrounded Jerusalem to take it captive. Then for no explained reason, they left, which gave the saints the opportunity to flee to the mountains for safety, before the Jewish-Roman War of 66-70 AD.
The abomination of desolation is not about the end times or the antichrist!

Dr. John Barnett of Discover the Book Ministries points to a physical temple in Revelation 11.
The ‘temple’ that is being referred to in Revelation 11 is the ‘body of Messiah, made up of his saints’. Messiah is the cornerstone of the temple, the apostles are the foundation and the saints are the little stones that make up the walls.
The command to ‘measure the temple’ in Revelation 11 was fulfilled by Catholic monk Martin Luther, who was given the Scriptures and told to compare what the popes of Rome taught against the Scriptures.
He found out that the Roman Catholic Church is an apostate church, and not part of the true church(temple), so he delegated them to the outer court of Gentiles.

Dr. John Barnett of Discover the Book Ministries says points to 2 Thessalonians 2 describing the antichrist in the temple.
Keep in mind that when the Apostle Paul wrote 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4, the Jewish temple was still standing, as it wasn’t destroyed by the Romans until 70 A.D., so any reference to a physical temple would have been to that temple, not an end times temple.
To understand that, let’s look at how Messiah defined the word “temple.”
In John 2:14, Messiah spoke of the physical temple. The Greek word for the physical temple is hieron.
“And He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers doing business.”
Then just five verses later in John 2:19-20, Jesus spoke of the spiritual temple. The Greek word for the spiritual temple is naos.
“Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” But He was speaking of the temple of His body.”
Whenever Paul used the word naos, he applied it to followers of Messiah, the Christian Church, which is a literal temple, but not a physical building. Paul is saying that the Son of Perdition would sit in the temple of Elohim, that is, in the midst of the true church.
Instead of being an infidel who doesn’t believe in God, like so many pastors teach, the antichrist does not reign outside of the Church, but in the very bosom of the church.
Paul places the Son of Perdition nowhere else than in the very sanctuary of God.
The Pope sits (assumes a position of authority) as God in the temple of God, proclaiming to be the leader of all Christians.
The Pope is called the ‘Vicar of Christ’ which means ‘substitute for Christ.’
He proclaims to forgive sins.
He proclaims that salvation is only available through the Roman Catholic Church.
He preaches a message of ‘salvation by works’, instead of through the blood of Jesus.

Dr. John Barnett of Discover the Book Ministries says that Daniel 9:26-27 says that Messiah will appear after 69 weeks.
And what is after the 69th week? The 70th week! Yet, somehow Dr. Barnett assigns it to an end-time antichrist.
Any teacher who is basing their explanation of Revelation on the concept of a future 70th week of Daniel 9, the 7-year tribulation period, is misleading you. The false concept of a 7-year tribulation period is based on the 70-weeks of Daniel 9 prophecy.
The prophecy foretold when Messiah would appear to carry out His ministry, and when (in the middle of the 70th week) He would confirm the (everlasting) covenant (that was mentioned in Daniel 9:4) with His blood as the Passover Lamb, to atone for our sins. It’s not about the end times or the antichrist.

Dr. John Barnett of Discover the Book Ministries says the people of prince destroy the city and the temple, which he has assigns to the Romans in 70 AD.
This is off-target, as the ‘people of the prince’ are the Jews, as Messiah is of the tribe of Judah. The ‘prince to come’ is Messiah, who came to carry out His ministry and confirm the everlasting covenant with His blood to atone for our sins in the middle of the seven years of the 70th week.
There is no 2,000-year time gap in a 490 year prophecy. It’s not about the end-times or the antichrist. It’s about the multiyear ministry of Messiah and His death on the cross.
Daniel 9:25 points to Messiah the Prince, appearing after 69 weeks, meaning in the 70th week.
Daniel 9:26 also points to Messiah.
So to proclaim that the ‘he’ in Daniel 9:27 is Messiah’s enemy, the antichrist, is absurd!

Dr. John Barnett of Discover the Book Ministries points to the antichrist rising up out of the Roman beast kingdom.
Indeed the antichrist did rise up from the fallen Roman Empire.
The concept of an end-times one-man antichrist is a deception from the enemy, to deflect blame away from the office of the papacy, the Popes of Rome, who fulfill Bible prophecy as the ‘little horn’ of Daniel 7, the ‘son of perdition’ of 2 Thessalonians 2, and the ‘beast’ of Revelation 13, who leads the ‘harlot’ church of Rome.

Dr. John Barnett of Discover the Book Ministries great tribulation that took place in 70 AD was not the worst tribulation, as over one million people have died in other times.
Messiah wasn’t pointing to the number of people killed, but to dire circumstances of the Jewish people during their judgment.
When Messiah was being taken to Calvary and Jewish women were weeping, Luke 23:28-30 says, “But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children. For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck. Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.”
When you read the witness of Jewish-Roman historian Josephus, then you understand how horrifying the scene in Jerusalem was during the Jewish Roman War of 66-70 AD, when 1.1 million Jews died in and around Jerusalem from famine, pestilence, infighting, suicide, evisceration, crucifixion and by the Roman sword.
The teachings of Dr. John Barnett serve to deflect blame away from the antichrist beast pope, the false prophet Jesuit Superior General and the harlot church of Rome!
Dr. John Barnett of Discover the Book Ministries teaches a false, futuristic fulfillment of the 70th week of Daniel 9, the Olivet Discourse and the prophecies in Revelation.
The 70th week of Daniel 9 is about Messiah’s ministry and His blood sacrifice as the Spotless Lamb to atone for our sins. It has nothing to do with the antichrist or the end times.
The Olivet Discourse foretold the events that would lead to the desolation of Jerusalem, the second temple and the Jewish nation; as punishment for the Jewish leaders continuing in rebellion against the Heavenly Father and for delivering His Son up to be killed. It has nothing to do with the antichrist or the end times.
Most of the prophecies in Revelation have been fulfilled in exacting detail during the last 1,900 years. It describes the historical narrative of the Satan-empowered leaders of the Roman beast kingdom (pagan Emperors > antichrist beast Popes > false prophet Jesuit Superior Generals) fighting against Messiah and His saints.
The explanations of Dr. John Barnett of Discover the Book Ministries serve to deflect blame away from the enemy in Rome, and to mislead the end-times saints so that they’re not prepared for how the end-times will play out, and don’t know the context of Messiah’s return.

Excellent overview. Great explanations
Thank you for your comment Lauren! 🙂
David,
I understand that there is a blindness for those who believe they already know the truth about prophecy fulfillment, and so I don’t type the following statement lightly knowing that only a little over a year ago, I myself was blind to our Heavenly Father and salvation through our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
That said, it does amaze me when teachers like Dr. Barnett talk about the Roman beast kingdom, or refer to a revived Roman Empire, in connection with the antichrist. This amazement is not a positive amazement of course, but a grievous puzzling at how they don’t notice that the ROMAN Catholic Church is the most powerful and wealthy institution in the world and that the Papacy is actively meeting with world political, economic, and religious leaders weekly and exercising dominion over then. I pray they make the connection, because it seems silly to talk of a revived Roman Empire beast kingdom that the antichrist rises from when we can see that exact institution exists and has existed for almost 1500 years in the Roman Catholic Church. It has “Roman” in its very title, so it seems obvious. But as you have said in your writings and videos, prophecy fulfillment is straightforward for those who seek truth with eyes to see and ears to hear.
Dr. Barnett is far from the only person who talks of a revived Roman Empire, but it grieves me every time I see someone speak of this and they don’t make the connection with Papal Rome.
May our Messiah and Father continue to bless your ministry, brother!
Thank you for sharing that insight Matthew! Regarding prophecy teachers, we have to keep in mind that the Jesuits take on many roles, including that of Protestant pastors, to mislead people about prophecy fulfillment.
As you noted, it’s hard to comprehend that Dr. Barnett knows that the antichrist rises to power out of the Roman Empire, but doesn’t make the connection to the wicked popes of Rome.
We can see how the popes fulfill prophecy as the man of sin, the son of perdition, antichrist beast popes by their fruit: https://revelationtimelinedecoded.com/we-know-them-by-their-fruit/
