Dr. John Barnett Discover the Book Ministries Understand Revelation

This Revelation Timeline Decoded post features a video from Dr. John Barnett of Discover the Book Ministries DTBM, called BIBLICAL PROPHECY & HOLY LIVING–HOW TO UNDERSTAND THE BOOK OF REVELATION.

Dr. John Barnett of Discover the Book Ministries says that Revelation doesn’t make sense unless you understand that the turning point in the book is the absence of the Church on earth, from Revelation 4 onward.

First of all, he fails to understand that Revelation is not one chronological narrative. It has four chronological layers, each spanning from the first century until Messiah’s return. So it’s a flawed narrative to proclaim that the church is “absolutely absent after Revelation 3.”

Read Revelation Is A Layered War Manual

Secondly, 12:17 points to Satan making war with Messiah’s saints, “And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.”

Revelation 13:7 points to the antichrist making war with the saints, “And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.”

The saints make up Messiah’s Ekklesia, His church, so to say that the saints aren’t present after Revelation 3 is misguided.

Dr. John Barnett of Discover the Book Ministries points to seven types of Christians in Revelation 2-3.

Revelation 2-3 describes seven church eras which span from the first century until Messiah returns. So again, his explanation that the church is absent after Revelation 3 is flawed, as it’s pointing to the saints who have existed during the last 2,000 years.

Dr. John Barnett of Discover the Book Ministries gives false, futuristic prophecy fulfillment explanations, which he learned at seminary.

Dr. John Barnett has studied at Michigan State University, Bob Jones University (B.S., B.A., M.A., M. Div.), The Master’s Seminary (faculty), Dallas Theological Seminary.

DTS is the primary place where the Jesuits have caused their false, futuristic explanation to be given, as the founder of DTS was a protege of Cyrus Scofield.

Dr. John Barnett of Discover the Book Ministries teaches a futuristic fulfillment of the 70th week of Daniel 9, the Olivet Discourse and the prophecies in Revelation.

The 70th week of Daniel 9 is about Messiah’s ministry and His blood sacrifice as the Spotless Lamb to atone for our sins. It has nothing to do with the antichrist or the end times.

The Olivet Discourse foretold the events that would lead to the desolation of Jerusalem, the second temple and the Jewish nation; as punishment for the Jewish leaders continuing in rebellion against the Heavenly Father and for delivering His Son up to be killed. It has nothing to do with the antichrist or the end times.

Most of the prophecies in Revelation have been fulfilled in exacting detail during the last 1,900 years. It describes the historical narrative of the Satan-empowered leaders of the Roman beast kingdom (pagan Emperors > antichrist beast Popes > false prophet Jesuit Superior Generals) fighting against Messiah and His saints.

The explanations of Dr. John Barnett of Discover the Book Ministries serve to deflect blame away from the enemy in Rome, and to mislead the end-times saints so that they’re not prepared for how the end-times will play out, and don’t know the context of Messiah’s return.

Have you come across anyone besides yourself that teaches the historic revelations?
I find it hard to believe these preaches would not have read & studied the reformers as part of their training.. are they working for the opposition or just spoon fed, programmed & have no interest in seeking the truth..
I pray for the saints who are unprepared for what is coming, as they are in for a big shock very soon..
    Praying in Yeshua’s name..

    • Caroline, as far as some modern teachers, here are some.

Karl Tester is a historicist who is currently posting a Revelation series.

BibleOrTraditions is a historicist who has a Revelation series.

Robert Carignola is a historicist who has videos on YouTube.

As for pastors, yeah it’s odd that they ignore what the Protestant Reformers and the great theologians of the 16th-20th century taught about the historical fulfillment of prophecy. The end-times deception is grand.

  2. The Book of Revelation is a mystery that I don’t think even the early reformers could figure out:

Jesus said no one knows the day or the hour. This book was written for us to be watching for the signs but not written for us to fully understand or know the exact timing; I believe, because too many people would become self sufficient and cease to keep studying the bible.

But the principles are there for us to keep watch and be ready as we see these signs happening.

I don’t condemn those who believe in Pre or Post Tribulation Rapture but however, we should not be too critical of those who differ from our opinions to the point of slander.

Whatever your view is, it can be supported either way. What if your opinion is wrong??? This constant back and forth arguments is dividing the body of Christ and is causing more harm and confusion than good or encouragement to our spiritual brothers and sisters.

What matters the most is that we have a proper relationship and view of Jesus’ sovereignty as Lord and Savior and are readily prepared as a bride waiting for Christ’s return at any moment!

    • Margo, the studies on this website, the YouTube videos and the book explain the mystery of the fulfillment of Revelation. Indeed, we are to be watching for signs, based upon the understanding of what has already been fulfilled so that we know where we are at on the fulfillment timeline.

The false, futuristic explanations cannot be supported with Scripture, that’s the point of exposing these deceptions from the enemy. The historical fulfillment of most of the prophecies in Revelation during the last 1,900 years can be proven with Scripture and historical fact.

Sadly, pastors like Dr. John Barnett are misleading people. I disagree with your assessment that debating these issues is causing more harm, for we are called to expose deceptions in the church and this is a huge one.

I pray that you will seek truth about the fulfillment of Revelation, for it it we see validation of the authority of the Bible and we see the glory of Messiah.
