A Third Rebuilt Temple In Jerusalem Is Not Biblical

This Revelation Timeline Decoded study will show that there is no Scriptural need for a rebuilt 3rd temple in Jerusalem.

Prophecy teachers refer to these passages to justify their explanation of a future 3rd temple in Jerusalem. But the Bible passages that these teachers are referring to have nothing to do with the end times or a third temple in Jerusalem.

And since these deceptions are from the enemy, they create events in Israel to make it seem like they are going to build a 3rd temple, and they very well might.

Every few years, they proclaim that the perfect red heifer has been found. They shows some Jews offer a sacrifice in Jerusalem. They proclaim that the temple priestly instruments have been prepared. But it’s all a deception to mislead the end-times saints.

Daniel 9

Futurists claim that Daniel 9:26-27 foretells an end times antichrist who will make a 7-year peace treaty with Israel, the 70th week of Daniel. The peace agreement would supposedly allow the temple sacrifices to take place. And after 3 1/2 years, the antichrist will supposedly desecrate the temple, to start 3 1/2 years of Great Tribulation.

But the 70th week of Daniel was fulfilled on time, after the 69th week. Go figure!

It was fulfilled from 27-34 A.D., when Messiah and His disciples confirmed with the Jews for seven years, that He is the promised Messiah who atoned for their sins by ratifying the everlasting covenant, as the Passover Lamb of Elohim. Read The Covenant Of The 70th Week

Here is a study that shows the fulfillment of Daniel 12, the Abomination of Desolation, and the fulfillment of the 1,290 and 1335 days of great tribulation in Judea.

The 70 weeks of Daniel prophecy only speaks about the rebuilding of the second temple, and never speaks about a third temple. It speaks about the coming Messiah, and never speaks about an end times antichrist.

It gives a 70 week time frame and never speaks about a 1,987+ year time gap in between the 69th and 70th week. Inserting those things into the prophecy is an abuse of Scripture, as they are out of context with Elohim’s Word.

The concept of a futuristic 70th week of Daniel and one-man antichrist, is the creation of the Jesuits in the 16th century; as they sought to deflect blame about from the Roman Catholic Church as the Antichrist beast of Revelation, the Little Horn of Daniel, and the office of the Papacy, the Son of Perdition.

2 Thessalonians 2

Futurists claim that in 2 Thessalonians 2 Paul is speaking about an end times antichrist who will sit in the temple in Jerusalem and proclaim to be God.

Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.”

So what does Paul mean?

Keep in mind that when the Apostle Paul wrote 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4, the Jewish temple was still standing, as it wasn’t destroyed by the Romans until 70 A.D., so any reference to a physical temple would have been to that temple, not an end times temple.

To understand that, let’s look at how Messiah defined the word “temple.”

In John 2:14, Messiah spoke of the physical temple. The Greek word for the physical temple is hieron.

And He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers doing business.”

Then just five verses later in John 2:19-20, Jesus spoke of the spiritual temple. The Greek word for the spiritual temple is naos.

Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” But He was speaking of the temple of His body.”

Whenever Paul used the word naos, he applied it to followers of Messiah, the Christian Church, which is a literal temple, but not a physical building. Paul is saying that the Son of Perdition would sit in the temple of Elohim, that is, in the midst of the true church.

Instead of being an infidel who doesn’t believe in God, like so many pastors teach, the Antichrist does not reign outside of the Church, but in the very bosom of the Church.

Paul places the Son of Perdition nowhere else than in the very sanctuary of God.

The Pope sits (assumes a position of authority) as God in the temple of God, proclaiming to be the leader of all Christians.

The Pope is called the ‘Vicar of Christ’ which means ‘substitute for Christ.’

He proclaims to forgive sins.

He proclaims that salvation is only available through the Roman Catholic Church.

He preaches a message of ‘salvation by works’, instead of through the blood of Jesus.

Here is a Bible study that proves the meaning of the temple in 2 Thessalonians 2.

Revelation 11

Futurists claim that John is speaking about a physical temple, when he says to measure the temple, and to designate the gentiles into the outer court.

Then I was given a reed like a measuring rod. And the angel stood, saying, “Rise and measure the temple (naos) of God, the altar, and those who worship there.” Revelation 11:1

The ‘reed like a measuring rod’ is the Word of Elohim, the Little Book of Revelation 10. The Greek for reed or rod is “kanon” = canon of holy scriptures. Kanon is also translated as rule, or measuring rod.

Elohim was telling Martin Luther, a Catholic monk, to use the Scriptures to determine who was the true church, the Temple of Elohim; and who was the false church.

When Martin Luther and others measured the teachings of the Catholic Church against the Scriptures, they were able to see that it is the false church. Here is a study about measuring the temple in Revelation 11:1-2

Ezekiel 40

The temple that Ezekiel envisioned has been fulfilled in the true temple of Elohim, one that is not made with human hands.

Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet, Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will ye build me? saith the Lord: or what is the place of my rest?” Acts 7:48-49

God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands.” Acts 17:24

Paul told us that we are the temple of Elohim.

Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief corner stone, in whom the whole building, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.” Ephesians 2:19-22

“Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.” 1 Corinthians 3:17

“And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them And walk among them.I will be their God,And they shall be My people.” 2 Corinthians 6:16

Zechariah 6:12-13 proclaims that the Branch, Messiah, would build the temple of the Father; which is made without hands.

“And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD: Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.”

The followers of Messiah are the stones which build up the walls.

Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,”  1 Peter 2:4-7

The walls of the Holy City of Jerusalem are made up of Jasper, clear as crystal.

“Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;” Revelation 21:11

“And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.” Revelation 21:18

The light of the Father and Son illuminate the temple from within, so that their light shines through the clear walls, through the saints, to illuminate all that is around it.

“And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.” Revelation 21:23

John drives the point home when Jesus proclaims that people who overcome will be a pillar in the temple of Elohim.

He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more. I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God. And I will write on him My new name.” Revelation 3:12

The true tabernacle was made by the Father, not man.

Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.” Hebrews 8:1

An end times rebuilt Jewish temple with bloody sacrifices would be blasphemous.

Messiah is our High Priest whose blood atoned for all of our sins by His sacrifice. If they ever do rebuild a temple in Jerusalem and restart bloody sacrifices, it will be a denial of Jesus Christ’s sacrifice and a blasphemy to God.

Such a temple could never be called “the temple of God” and Christians should never support one being built.

  1. Hello David,

Here’s one of the “proofs” that are used by futurists to rectify the third temple/physical end-time Israel together with Christians, as two separate people groups, that is widely used, and is difficult at least for me to explain to others, and that is Romans 11:11-32. A study note I will cite from – “When the Gentile believers are grafted into Christ, they are grafted into Israel, the cultivated olive tree, to become fellow partakers of the fatness (Christ) of the root (the patriarchs Romans 11:16), the unsearchable riches of God in Christ (Eph. 3:8). They and Israel have become the branches of Christ, the true vine (John 15:1,5) and with Him the two have become the organism that expresses God. Israel stumbled on the stone of stumbling, Christ (Rom. 9:32), but did not fall. Rather, they only misstepped in order that God’s salvation might come to the Gentiles (Acts 13:46)”

So, it is alleged – Christians are “grafted” into (physical) Israel; we are two separate people groups that God saves. This erroneously implies that both Jews and Christians will be saved, one by the old covenant promise; one by the atoning blood of Jesus. When I’ve personally debated the futuristic views with others, this is what’s always thrown at me, Israel is Israel, and Christians will be grafted into Israel… End-times is all about (physical) Israel, & Christians are part of that end-game scenario, hence, in their eyes, all the more “proof” for an end-time third Jewish temple,.. etc..

Since futurists believe Israel is Israel and Christians will be grafted into Israel, consequently, this allows for the entire futuristic end-time scenario to make more sense, in their eyes, but is a feeble attempt at making sense at all.

    Shalom brother David,

    Mike.
